When evaluating a potential daycare center, it's important to consider:

  • What training does the staff have in infant/toddler development?
  • Are activities and schedules compatible with my concept of proper child care?
  • Are toys and materials well organized, age-appropriate, clean and readily available for my young one?
  • Is this caregiver able to accommodate the special needs of my child, in regards to dietary needs and child-rearing philosophy?
  • Does the environment enrich my child's daily experience--is it child-friendly and brightly lit?
  • Does this caregiver respect the language, culture and values of my family?
  • Does the caregiver enjoy children?
  • Am I welcome to drop in at any time?
  • Will my child feel good about coming here?
  • Is the environment sanitary and safe?
  • Is the child care program licensed by the state or local government?
  • Is the child care program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children?
  • Are the ratios and group size appropriate for my child's age?
  • What is my "gut reaction" as a concerned parent and what is the reaction of my child when introduced into this new environment?
